Resumen:
The aim of this work was to determine the effect of phosphorus and nitrogen supply on shoot and root growth, phosphorus uptake and root:shoot ratio in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). Wheat plants were grown in a greenhouse during August-December 1996, in large pots in a soil of Balcarce-Buenos Aires (Argentina). Phosphorus rates were 0 and 30 kg ha-1 and nitrogen rates were 0 and 200 kg ha-1. Chlorophyll content, shoot and root weight increased by phosphorus addition, with or without nitrogen addition. Phosphorus uptake and root length increased after phosphorus and nitrogen supply. Root:shoot ratio decreased with phosphorus addition because of increased shoot growth relative to root.
