Resumen:
A survey of breeding birds was carried out in the whole snow-free area at Duthoit Point, Nelson Island, South Shetland Islands, Antarctica in January 1994. A total of 12 species was recorded: Gentoo Penguin Pygoscelis papua (1828 pairs), Adelie Penguin P. adeliae (1), Southern Giant Petrel Macronectes giganteus (118), Pintado Petrel Daption capense (14), Wilson's Storm Petrel Oceanites oceanicus (2), Black bellied Storm Petrel Fregetta tropica (4), Imperial Cormorant Phalacrocorax atriceps (133), Kelp Gull Larusdominicanus (18), Subantarctic Skua Catharacta antarctica (5), South Polar Skua Catharacta maccormicki (1), Antarctic Tern Sterna vittata (29) and Greater Sheathbill Chionis alba (2 pairs). This paper provide new information for 10 species and evidence the high species richness of this area.
