Resumen:
The beetles (order Coleoptera) comprise the largest group ofinsects in terms of species richness, with about 400,000described species (Ja¨ch & Balke, 2008) distributed in 211families (Bouchard et al., 2011). Most species are terrestrialand only a minor percentage can be regarded as aquatic. Inspite of this,Coleoptera represents one of the largest orders ofaquatic invertebrates. Ja¨ch & Balke (2008) summarized thediversity of the world?s water beetles, estimating that about18,000 species in 37 families have aquatic representatives.
