Migration Governance and State Controls in Argentina

We argue that the global regime of migration control includes two paradigms: migration governance, and policies and practices of state control and vigilance of mobility. We pose that these two paradigms have co-existed and still co-exist in Argentina. We highlight the way in which the rhetoric of inclusion of the Migration Law N° 25875 enacted in 2004 co-existed with state migration controls in the economic, administrative, social and symbolic borders of the state. We show how these controls have intensified and analyze the way in which an Urgent Executive Order passed in 2017 has made changes in the Migration Law within a scenario where a political party of a ?new right wing? is governing the country.
