Resumen:
This paper explores the experiences of Bolivian women who live and work with their families in Argentinean peri-urban areas. As many authors have argued , gender relations constrain women?s territorial mobility, labor trajectories and everyday life to rather excluding migratory contexts. Gender inequalities intersect with those of class, ethnicity, race, nationality and migratory condition. Moreover, other interconnected issues influence women`s territorial mobility: social networks, migratory policies and state control, previous labor trajectories, segmented labor markets, xenophobic stereotypes and discrimination, social capital, marital status and domestic group structures, among others. Therefore, empowerment should not be taken for granted. Women?s migration triggers contradictory effects that may enable different degrees of autonomy, which vary according to migrant women?s possibilities of transforming established gender models, social hierarchies and dependence within their families and labor markets.
