Resumen:
This paper analyses the participation of Paraguayan migrant men in the forestry labor market of the Paraná River Delta. Based on the last Argentine Population Census, we show that Paraguayans are the most important migrant group in Argentina. According to the Argentine National Population Census 2010, 81% of the foreign population in Argentina came from Latin America (Table 1) and 80% of the population coming from this continent was born in its neighboring countries: Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay (Table 2). The total of foreign population in Argentina was 4.5%, Paraguayans ranking first, followed by Bolivians, Chileans, Peruvians, Uruguayans and Brazilians (Tables 1 and 2). Forestry industry market labor is segmented by gender, age and nationality/migration status. This is to say, in the Parana Delta ?there is no work for women and elder people?. The features of the formation of migration mechanisms and networks of Paraguayans in Argentina are analyzed. Migration networks have been the channels through which many people attained a job, a place to live and some security, but they can also be considered as interstices to tolerate and resist poverty and des-territorialization together with other compatriots who share several customs and a sense of belonging.
