ABSTRACT The succession is vastly developed in nearly all the totality of the eastern centre of the provinces of Rio Negro and Chubut, in relative bas-relief outcrops; at the same time, the basalts and sedimentary deposits which covered the territory in question, along with the erosive action, have contributed the Tertiary-Cretaceous rock outcrops to be disposed in a disperse way in a great enlargement area. To this we add, the frequent lateral changes and the scarce exposed thickness, as well as a profuse nomenclature which has generated certain confusion for the settlement of the stratigraphic column of the area. We have formulated as the purpose of this work the implementation and application of a Geographic Information System with the digital processing of satellite images from the ETM Landsat 7 satellite, with the aim of obtaining a global view of such an extensive territory as Patagonia is, synthesizing and unifying the knowledge of the Tertiary-Cretaceous up to now, producing new information and relating it, defining contacts, determining sedimentological variations in the rocks in question, joining and combining contemporary sedimentary deposits outcropping in different areas, and determining the mining potential of the application rocks (limestones, bentonites, clay, gypsum, etc.) present in the cycle.
