Abstract: The objective of this work was the comparison of ecosystem C pools and C fluxes in three forests located at the alluvial Plain of the Paraná River floodplain, Argentine. Different geo-forms were studied: marginal levee with mono-specific forest with Salix humboldtiana and Tessaria integrifolia, and internal levee with Albizia inundata. The C content in the above-ground biomass was 113 Mg C ha-1 for S. humboldtiana, 79 Mg C ha-1 for T. integrifolia, and 50 Mg C ha-1 for A. inundata. The content of SOC within the first -30 cm depth were 140 Mg C ha-1 for A. inundata, 52 Mg C ha-1 for S. humboldtiana, and 50 Mg C ha-1 for T. integrifolia. SOC content was lower in the marginal areas than in the internal areas, relating with soil moisture and textural classes of soils. Comparing C fluxes above and within soil in the three different ecosystems, litter remain more time on the marginal areas soils; meanwhile the SOC has a lower decomposition constant in the internal areas, explained by a higher lime/clay content, which increases the protection of the humic substances.
