Climatechange, fishing,and invasion by alien species are the drivers of global change thatmainly affect Patagonian marine-fish assemblages. In this chapter, wereconstructed the coastal-fish assemblages and their changes inrichness and composition in three areas at Northern, Central, andSouthern Patagonia between 1970 and 2020. Overall, there was anincrease in fish richness (30 species) driven by an influx of speciesfrom warmer waters in Northern and Central Patagonia and by theinvasion of alien species at Central andSouthern Patagonia.Such a trendis consistent with the global pattern of tropicalization intemperate waters described for other regions and recent evidence ofchange in the sea surface temperature (SST) up to 48ºS latitude. Wedetected only two local extinctionsof skates from warm waters that disappeared from the northern area.Alarge number of fishes (30 species) diminished their frequency ofoccurrence. A totalof twenty speciesofcommercial importance, sevenof which were elasmobranchs,were the most affected by partial losses.
