Resumen:
Alouatta caraya faces the greatest pressure from illegal capture for the pet trade in Argentina. Confiscations of this species are relatively common, as is the voluntary surrender of animals by owners no longer able or willing to care for them. Rescue centres which receive them do not have the capacity to maintain animals over the long term and often release animals. We demonstrate the applicability of genetic assignment tests to identify the geographic origin of individuals for release site selection and monitoring of translocated animals.
