Resumen:
The initial and decisive step to carry out a catalytic process consists of developing anappropriate catalyst for the reaction of interest. The current trend is to approach rational designand optimization, making use of recent instrumental and theoretical advances. In the lastdecade Diffuse Reflectance Infrared Fourier Transform Spectroscopy (DRIFTS) has becomea very popular method for the characterization of catalysts and it has been applied quiteextensively to the identification of all adsorbed species on the surface, and consequently maycontribute in the identification of reaction intermediates. Recent works of catalytic systemsusing infrared absorption spectroscopy to study the adsorption of alkynes and alkenes oversupported metal catalysts and single crystals, have been published. On the other hand, inthe latest works the catalytic reforming of tar model compounds of a gasification stream ofagroforestry residues with in-situ DRIFTS was studied. The interaction between the catalyst, tar model compounds and the main carbon species present in the syngas (CH4, CO2, and CO)were evaluated. In this work, the 1-pentyne selective hydrogenation and toluene catalyticreforming were carried out over different catalysts using a DRIFTS cell. The adsorption, hydrogenation of pure 1-pentyne and reforming of syngas and toluene/syngas mixture weremonitored by in situ DRIFTS.
