Resumen:
The aim of this work was to detect argentine norlhwestern plants with antimicrobial activity against Gram (-) bacteria (Escherichia coli, Enterobacter c1oacae, Acinetobacter sp., Proteus mirabilis. Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Providencia stuartti, Serratia marccscens. Morganella morgani). Alcoholic extracts were prepared from thirty plant species. The effect of these extracts was assayed on the growth of resistant and sensibles antibiotic strains isolaled from c1inical materials obtained of nosocomial infections in Tucumán- Argentina. Bacterial susceptibilíty test was performed by agar difTusion, the mínimum inhibitory concentration was determined by a two-fold serial agar dilution method. The results indicate high susceptibility of Gram (-) bacterias to extracts of Larrea cuneifolia, Larrea divarícata, Eugenia uniflora, Zuccagnia punctata. Antimicrobial phytochemical are expected to be promising therapeutic alternatives to antibiotics against microbial infections.
