Resumen:
Molecular phylogenies provide
new insights into the evolutionary and biogeographic histories of plants. This
symposium aims to show recent research on molecular phylogenies combined with
biogeographical reconstructions to infer the origin and diversification of
plant groups in the Southern Hemisphere. By bringing together researchers with
phylogenetic data on various Southern Hemisphere plant families and from
different continents, we hope to advance our understanding of the general
biogeographic patterns and evolutionary processes that underlie the present-day
distributions of Southern Hemisphere plant taxa. Furthermore, different
taxonomic groups and novel research methods will be identified for future investigations
on the biogeographic history of this diverse region.
