Resumen:
For decades, image based flow velocimetry techniques, both in the Eulerian and Lagrangian frame of references, have played an important role for the understanding of physical flow associated to several environmental and hydraulics process. The constant development of new technologies have made image sensors more accessible to the end user, thus they are nowadays a feasible option to perform velocity measurements in a broad range of applications including large scale (LS) conditions. This paper presents recent contributions, by the authors of this work, to the development and implementation of Large-Scale Particle Image Velocimetry (LSPIV, Eulerian frame of reference) and Large-Scale Particle Tracking Velocimetry (LSPTV, Lagrangian frame of reference). First, this work shows the results of the implementation of LSPIV for flow discharge measurements in Mountain Rivers of the Córdoba province in Argentina. The LSPIV technique has been implemented using remote digital cameras mounted on a crane, and on an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). Finally, this work presents the results of LSPTV implementation in a large-scale physical model experiment. The software development for the implementation of both image based velocimetry techniques is also described in this paper. In particular, the pre and post-processing techniques implemented in the software (e.g. data rectification and unsteady movements compensation) are described. These pre and post-processing techniques are critical for the successful application of LSPIV and LSPTV in large-scale conditions.
