Resumen:
This chapter reports the main results from an investigation conducted by The Human Environment and Housing Laboratory, CONICET CCT-Mendoza. The thermal behavior of 96 facade materials - claddings and coatings- has been evaluated by mean of their solar reflectance index (SRI). To assess the relative impact of the appropriate selection of materials as a strategy for building and urban rehabilitation, we have carried out simulations on two scales of intervention. The results show that the role of vertical urban envelope is critical for reducing heat gains provided by multiple reflections within a vial channel, affecting not only the indoor temperature to building scale, but also the comfort condition of pedestrians by increased urban temperatures.
