Resumen:
“Scientists and specialists all over the world agree on that in cities and their influence regions most important environmental damages are taking place. This critical issue, common to almost every city in the world, is particularly severe in towns of the developing countries. To the uncontrolled growth of population, deficits of infrastructure and services, ecosystem depletion, waste and pollutants emissions must be added. All of this is coupled with a devastating increase of poverty. This project’s main objective is to develop technical proposals that would allow urban planners and designers to choose the best technical options for different urban infrastructure components considering environmental and economic issues. Pedestrian, vehicular and their interconnected spaces group a relevant number of components whose upgrading deserves top priority. On the other hand, there has been a progressive incorporation of newer urban components, technologies, building materials and urban equipment. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) has been selected as the tool to assess the environmental impacts of products and technologies”.
