In this presentation we will discuss the excited state spectroscopy and dynamics of a family of cyanide-bridged Ru polypyridines and some related monomers. The transient absorption of these complexes present a very strong photo-induced absorption in the near infrared. The energy and shape of these bands indicate that these excited states can be described as mixed-valence complexes where the cyanide promotes a very strong coupling between the linked Ru moieties. This strong coupling results in the apparition of new pathways of deactivation for the excited state like energy transfer to a distant acceptor. We will also show that the observed dynamics depends on symmetry the excited state initially populated, which in turn depends on the wavelength of irradiation.
