Resumen:
Ruthenium complexes containing 2,2?-bipyridine (bpy) have proven to be very effective in the photoliberation of molecules of biological interest (caged compounds) due to the very well established photolabile nature of some of its compounds (1). For example, the complex [Ru(bpy)2py2]2+ (py = pyridine) has a quantum yield of 0.26 for the photorelease of a pyridine (2). Inmovilizaton of this family of complexes on surfaces could open a variety of application of these complexes allowing its incorporation into more complex structures like nanoparticles carrying different caged compounds for coordinated activation. In this work we present the synthesis and properties of the complex [Ru(bpy)(phen-dione)py2]2+ (phen-dione = ligand 1,10-phenantroline-5,6-dione, py = pyridine) which present the ability to be attached to the surface of transition metal oxides, like TiO2 (3) and encouraging photolabilization of a pyridine ligand under exposure to visible light . This behavior suggests it could be the basis of a family of caged compounds able to release molecules from various surface (1) ?A New Strategy for Neurochemical Photodelivery: Metal-Ligand Heterolytic Cleavage?
