Resumen:
Acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber (NBR) is an important material used in automotive parts, as gaskets, hoses, o-rings, etc, due to its well-known oil resistance. On the other hand, the properties of the fuel in contact with rubber parts can affect the rubber performance in service. In fact, biodiesel has demonstrated to have a more important impact in rubber vulcanizates, compared with gasoil. In order to investigate this different behaviour, we analyzed the acetone extracts of NBR vulcanizates, obtained from samples that had been aged by immersion in fluids, as biodiesel or gasoil. The extracts were analyzed by liquid chromatography and infrared spectroscopy, allowing the detection on some compound ingredients, along with the corresponding immersion fluid. NBR formulation was typical for extrusion processing, and the compounds were characterized by its physical properties, and their change after immersion. The results show the different ability of both, biodiesel and gasoil, for swelling and for extracting components from the NBR vulcanizates.
