Resumen:
Thevalidity of the predictions that the proportion of species with pelagic larvae decreaseswith increase in latitude in the SW Atlantic has been found to be not true, although along the Pacific (Chilean)coast it´s the opposite (Gallardo & Penchaszadeh, 2001). These clearlycontrasting results were attributed to the different compositions of theGastropod assemblages on each side of the South American continent.  The number of species for whom thereproductive pattern is known increased with recent possibilities to access theArgentine shelf and slope up to 3.000m depth enabling us to study thereproduction of deep sea Gastropods. Al most 50 species endemic to the SWAtlantic are known to date on their hatching mode.  As we continue adding studied species, therejection of the Thorson´s rule in the SW Atlantic Gastropods is reinforcedwith a predominance of benthic direct development all along the latitudinalpattern.
