Research in the field of luminescent lanthanide(III) complexes is in constantgrowth, driven by their remarkable and unique optical properties such asnarrow emission bands in the visible region of the electromagnetic spectrum,large Stokes’ shifts and long luminescence lifetimes, which are unmatchedadvantages in various areas of research such as the design of sensors, probesor light emitting devices, among others. Luminescence sensitization andprotection from the environment by coordination by an adequate ligand iscrucial to attain the desired properties [1].In this sense, V-shaped rigid structures such as Tröger’s bases and otherdibenzodiazocines hold a great potential. Herein, we show the synthesis andcharacterization of the first family of multipodal ligands with a Tröger’s baseframework designed for the preparation of luminescent lanthanide(III)complexes, complemented by a more flexible related dibenzodiazocine.The terbium(III) complexes of the nine ligands were studied through theirluminescent properties, showing that the geometry and the substitutionpattern of the ligands allow the control of the stoichiometry of the speciesformed and the Tb(III) luminescence sensitization efficiency. In addition,promising results regarding the potential capability of copper (II) sensingwere obtained for the Tb(III) complex of the flexible dibenzodiazocine [2,3].[1] J.-C.G. Bünzli, Coord. Chem.
