Resumen:
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a disabling disease associated with a high use of resources for treatment (e.g. biologic drugs) and with costs related to productivity losses.§ There is scarce information on epidemiology and economic burden of RA in Argentina.§ Our objective was to collect information about key epidemiological and economic parametersand estimate the cost of actual treatment of moderate to severe RA in Argentina Methods§ Comprehensive literature search was made on PubMed and LILACS. In absence of local evidence or when international data could not be adapted to Argentina, we resorted to a consensus panel of local experts. Results were analyzed and validated through a modified Delphi panel method composed of seven rheumatology experts.§ Resource use rates were estimated (literature &expert opinion) and validated at Delphi panel. Direct costs were obtained in the database of unit costs of the Institute for Clinical Effectiveness and Health Policy in Argentina using micro-costing approach (costs of hospitalizations, adquisition and administration of drugs, monitoring, joint replacement (knee/hip), and adverse events), using a social security perspective. Indirect costs were estimated through human capital approach.
