Resumen:
Thefish collection began in 1970, in the ex Instituto de BiologíaMarina (currently INIDEP) under the direction of Dr. FernandoCervigón, eminent Spanish ichthyologist established in Venezuela(Cervigón & Cousseau, 1971). Thesamples come mainly from the marine research cruises carried on bythe INIDEP but there are also those delivered by fishing vessels crewand recreational fishermen. The specimens are fixed in water with 10% formaldehyde and then preserved in a solution of 75 % ethyl alcoholand 25 % distilled water. Thecollection acronym is INIDEP (Sabaj, 2016).Thecollection is classified phylogeneticallyfollowing Nelson etal.(2016). Theprincipal origin area is the Southwestern Atlantic continental shelfbetween 34° - 55° S and adjacent areas, but it also containssamples from South Georgia and South Shetland Islands, Southern Ocean(Fig. 1). Thedata are digitized and they have been entered into the SistemaNacional de Datos Biológicos (http://datos.sndb.mincyt.gob.ar/),Ministerio de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación Productiva de laNación, Argentina. Theholotype and 16 paratypes of Bathyrajacousseauae(Díaz de Astarloa & Mabragaña, 2004), the holotype and 9paratypes of Dipturusargentinensis(Díaz de Astarloa et.al.2008) and 1 paratype of Myliobatisridens(Ruocco etal.2012), make all part of the collection. In total, the collectioncontains 838 lots, 394 species of 166 Families representing 66 %of the total numberof species presently known as occurring in the abovementionedSouthwestern Atlantic sector. The collection contains also 58 speciesof Antarctic origin (members of the Families Nototheniidae,Bathydraconidae, Chanichthyidae, Liparidae, among others), theyconstitute 21,3 % of the species mentioned by Gon & Heemstra(1990) for the Southern Ocean. On the continental shelf and adjacentareas 41 of those species have been captured (Cousseau etal.2012), the rest (16 species, corresponding to 5 Families) come fromthe Southern Ocean. p { margin-bottom: 0.25cm; direction: ltr; color: rgb(0, 0, 10); line-height: 120%; text-align: left; }p.western { font-family: "Calibri", serif; font-size: 11pt; }p.cjk { font-family: "Calibri"; font-size: 11pt; }p.ctl { font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: 11pt; }a:link { color: rgb(0, 0, 255); }
