Resumen:
The agri-food sector includes a wide variety of plant food processing industries, which generate an important number of bio-wastes. If these bio-wastes are disposed of in landfills, they produce negative environmental impacts. Generally, these wastes are used as animal feed and fertilizers; however, they contain substances with beneficial bioactivities, positioning the perspective toward the production of high-added-value compounds. Moreover, considering industrial production is intended to extract the polyphenols using methodologies tending to diminish energy consumption, enhance quality, and reduce risk. Consequently, it is important to carry out the optimization of the extraction processes bearing in mind the multiple operating variables, due to it is directly related to the economic viability of the process. Then, it is important to find the best operating conditions that maximize the extraction rate and the process yield obtained from a bio-waste matrix.
