Organized media-enhanced fluorescence method coupled to multi-way calibration for the determination of pirimiphos-methyl in grains

Resumen:
A method for the detection and quantitation of pirimiphos-methyl in maize, wheat, soy and sorghum grains was developed. In order to improve the sensitivity of the method, the effect on the fluorescence intensity of the target analyte using different organized media, such as cyclodextrins and surfactants, was studied. These molecules can modify the luminescence properties of the analyte by host-guest complex forming (cyclodextrin) or inclusion into the micelle hydrophobic compartment (surfactant). On the other hand, aiming to apply the developed method to real samples with uncalibrated interferences, second order advantage was exploited by excitation-emission matrices registration and three-way multivariate calibration. The combination of fluorescence enhancement and multivariate calibration allowed the improvement of analytical figures of merit, reaching low limits of detection and quantitation suitable for the analysis of pesticides residue in food samples.
