Resumen:
A modified version of the solubility pump (i.e ., an inorganic ocean carbon cycle) model that is used in the second phase of the Ocean Carbon Model Intercomparison Project (OCMIP-2) is incorporated into the McGill Paleoclimate Model-2 (MPM-2). The effect of fresh water fluxes on the dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) concentration is formulated explicitly, and the sea-air CO2 flux is taken to be a function of wind speed, sea-ice concentration, sea surface temperature and sea surface salinity. The simulations of the pre-industrial equilibrium state of sea-air CO2 flux and latitude-depth distribution of DIC from the MPM-2 are compare d with the results from ten 3-D inorganic ocean carbon models that participated in OCMIP-2. It is shown that the MPM-2 results compare favorably with those from 3-D models.
