Resumen:
In different archaeological publications it has been pointed out that the Bahía Inútil-Bahía SanSebastián Depression would have been occupied by the sea during the Mid Holocene transgression. This alleged sea branch would have then divided the Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego intwo land masses, a “northern island” and a “southern island”, thus generating a significant geographicalbarrier and shaping environmental characteristics that would have been mirroredby the archaeological evidence of the Fuegian Archipelago. In the present paper, several linesof evidence are used to show that such marine connection never existed during the Late Glacialor the Holocene. Then, if some disparity within the archaeological context over both portionsof the Isla Grande should be detected, it should be explained by other causes, being themeither of environmental or archaeological nature, but not allocated to the hypothetical presenceof a marine channel which could have acted as a barrier between both sides of the island.
