Cyanobacterial blooms pose an environmental andsanitary risk. Among them is the species Microcystis aeruginosa,which are cells arranged in colonies, of cosmopolitandistribution, producer of a hepatotoxin (microcystin) and withdominance in the summer period, forming large blooms inrivers, lakes and reservoirs. Multiple ways have beeninvestigated to mitigate or control these blooms, withoutgenerating secondary effects on the environment and higheconomic expense; ultrasound technology is one of the ways thatare being studied today, and it is known that it generatescollapse of gas vesicles, inhibition of photosynthesis and ruptureof Microcystis membranes, but its effect is not yet developed indepth. The San Roque reservoir, located in the province ofCórdoba, is one of the most affected reservoirs in the country bycyanobacterial blooms, especially Microcystis aeruginosa. Theobjective of this work was to develop an ultrasound transducercapable of producing sedimentation of natural colonies ofMicrocystis extracted from the San Roque reservoir, and toevaluate its effect at the macro and microscopic level during andafter treatment. The effectiveness of the developed transducercould be affirmed since the treated colonies sedimented 10 minafter the treatment was started, and remained there after 14days. No intracellular changes could be identified by opticalmicroscopy. It was proposed to continue advancing in these testsby varying the powers and frequencies of the transducer, as wellas the response variables and perfecting their analysis.
