Resumen:
Applications of a model based on the Navier-Stokes equations are presented for estimatingthe distribution of the longitudinal component of velocity in the cross-section, time-averaged, for open channels with uniform and steady flow. The model consists of a non-homogeneous elliptic partial differential equation, for which the finite difference method was applied for its resolution. The model was implemented in a channel where information about the surface velocity field was available, measured using image velocimetry techniques. The results obtained through modeling allow for the estimation of velocity distribution and discharge. Additionally, for the case study, the lateral profile of mean velocities obtained through modeling is compared with measurements taken at the section using an Acoustic Dop-pler Current Profiler (ADCP), which allowed for the adjustment of model parameters and investigation into the velocity distribution obtained in the modeling.
