Resumen:
Zinc-Tin alloys were solidified in horizontal form and the obtained results were analyzed. Duringsolidification the distribution of temperatures were measured by using thermocouples locatedstrategically along the length of the samples. From the measured temperatures the followingparameters were derived; the local temperature gradient, the cooling rate and the velocities of theliquid and solids fronts. Comparing the structure of the samples and the values of theseparameters it was found that the temperature gradient reaches minimum values of as low as - 0.6°C/cm, and velocities of the fronts of around 0.1 cm/s. In addition, the grain size was measuredalong the samples. The results are presented and discussed in the frame of the results previouslyobtained for other alloys.
