In this paper we show how the Generalized Self-similarity model introduced by Cabrelli et.~al. in \cite{ca99} can be used for the coding and reconstruction of digital signals and images. We also prove how the block-coding techniques introduced by Jacquin~\cite{ja89} for measures, fit naturally into this functional model allowing to take advantage of local redundancy of the images, as well as to fully automatize the encoding and decoding process.
