Resumen:
Buenos Aires Province productivity has critical importance for the regional economy, and its coasts receive more than a million tourists every year. However, data and studies on the evolution of its beaches are very scarce. The morphology of sandy beaches is naturally dynamic and shows temporal variations at various scales. On top of that, the beaches of the northeast coast of the Buenos Aires Province have various sources of anthropogenic pressure that add complexity to coastal studies. In this work, the temporal evolution of the beaches in six sites located in the northeastern coastal sector of Buenos Aires is studied. For this, monthly and systematic records of beach profiles surveyed between 2011 and 2016 were analyzed. Beach slope and cross-shore extension variability for each location were studied. In this work, an indicator called “foreshore volume” was defined. The objective of this indicator was to quantify the erosion/accretion status of each surveyed beach. The results obtained in this work indicate that the sediment balance in the analyzed sites is not uniform, finding stable beaches, or in a state of accretion or erosion. It could be seen that the sediment balances obtained are mainly related to the geographical orientation of the coast, rather than to the anthropogenic pressure of each site.
