Resumen:
In recent decades, fibrous materials have been used as structured supports of catalysts applied to different types of reactions ranging from the control of pollutants to the production of products from the petrochemical industry, showing significant advantages in terms of mass and heat transfer, pressure drop and productivity. In the present work, the development of different types of structures is described: catalytic ceramic papers synthesized from silica-alumina fibers, catalytic cartridges constructed with metallic fibers, extruded monolithic microfilters from sepiolite fibers and activated carbon fibers formed in felt form. The development of cerium nanofibers and zirconia nanorods and applications of the structures developed in our laboratory for both gas phase and liquid phase reactions are also presented. The applications shown are the purification of exhaust gases from combustion engines, the elimination of nitrates and nitrites in drinking water, and the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane to ethylene.
