Resumen:
Nowadays, emission of pollutants to the atmosphere constitutes a subject of great concern. The light and heavy transport sector represents a high percentage of incidence in this problem. Particulate matter and nitrogen oxides are the main contaminants emitted by diesel engines that have increased their participation in the market in recent decades, due to their advantages over Otto-cycle engines. Catalytic filters represent an efficient technology for soot diesel abatement. In this sense, the amount of pollutants generated by dieselengines is strictly regulated, being the limits that can be emitted to the environment very clear. In order to comply with legislations, the after-treatment of exhaust gases constitutes one kind of solution which is compatible with gaseous systems. Catalytic filters are an efficient technology for reducing the soot emitted. In this work, the use of ceramic papers as substrates to conform catalytic filters is investigated. Catalytic systems based on Co and Ce were developed, in order to evaluate their behavior in the combustion of diesel soot. For this purpose, aqueous solutions of Ce and Co (with different molar ratios) were deposited on ceramic papers through a wet spray method using an ultrasonic nebulizer. These systems were characterized and catalytically evaluated in the soot combustion reaction. Catalytic stability was studied through numerous consecutive oxidation cycles or through severe thermal treatments (900°C).
