Resumen:
In the current work, catalytic fibers were synthesized by using plasma glidarc technique for their evaluation in a reaction of environmental interest, as it is soot combustion. Pure ceria fibers were used as support, which were prepared by means of a biotemplate. These fibers were then mixed with Mn or Fe precursor solutions, and exposed to plasma. The precipitates produced by plasma exposure of the precursor solutions were identified. The diffractograms of the supported fibers showed signals from Fe species but not from Mn, besides the bands coming from the support (CeO2). The morphology of the support, before and after deposition, was evaluated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), showing that the morphology was retained. By energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), the presence of Mn and Fe was corroborated. Lastly, the catalytic fibers were evaluated running temperature-programmed oxidation (TPO) tests, from which the temperature at maximum combustion rate (TM) was obtained for each catalyst. An improvement in the activity of the bare support was achieved for the sample containing Mn, which decreased the TM by 20 °C.
