Resumen:
Analytical modeling is a key tool in solar cell design and characterization. This chapter introduces fundamental concepts, equations and strategiesapplicable to thin-fi lm solar cell modeling. Assuming knowledge of basicsemiconductor and junction theory, models for key solar cell structuresare developed, with a special focus on the formulation of closed-formequations of current-voltage characteristics. Models for the horizontal pnjunction, vertical pn multijunction, nanorod multijunction and pin junctionare derived on the basis of a universal set of fundamental equations, showing their salient features and establishing comparisons between thedifferent designs. Relevant considerations for the interpretation of experimentalsolar cell data are also drawn from the different models.
