Resumen:
The aim of this chapter is to state the knowledge about nanocomposites based on starch as matrix and clay as reinforcement. This combination allows obtaining a nanocomposite with differentiated properties. However, the knowledge about starch (structure, type, chemical and physical modification) and their rheology behaviour are necessary for developing nanocomposites. Processing technique and mechanism of mixing of both compounds: clay and starch is one of the important actions. The main factors which influence the mechanical properties of the nanobiocompostes will be analyzed: type of clay, chemical modificacion of clay, type of plasticizer, water humidity test conditions, use of chemical mofidied starches, thermal stability and water absorption.
