We read with enthusiasm the recent paper by Arencibia et al. (2023b in which the authors retrieved and analyzed two mitogenomes from ancient Patagonians, an endeavor accomplished entirely with all the experimental and analytical procedures conducted in Argentina, as in their previous work (Arencibia et al., 2023a). However, we respectfully disagree with the results of their phylogenetic analysis, as well as with their conclusions,concerning the genetic connections with other South American regions.
