Characterization Of Plasticized Poly (Lactide Acid) Films For Food Packaging

Aliphatic polyesters, and particularly polylactide (PLA), are currently being proposed for its use in the area of biodegradable polymer materials. However, PLA films show some drawbacks, which can be limited by the addition of plasticizers. Four different plasticizers were tested in PLA films obtained by casting, according to the intended use of the films in food packaging. Effects on thermal properties were studied by differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis. Film structures were also characterised by scanning electronic microscopy and infrared spectroscopy
