Resumen:
Molecular modeling explains why alpha-monoglyceride (MG) forms preferentially, despite that dissociation of O-H bond at position 2 of glycerol is energetically favored. Mechansims for alpha- and beta-MG formation are postulated. A beta glyceroxide species participates in the pathways toward both isomers.
