In the contemporary Argentine educational context, where teachers of all subjects are required to reflect upon the local / national circumstances, culture and language in their classes, English teachers may find a useful way to pursue such goal by introducing the study of cultural and intellectual networks. Argentine / Latin American writers, artists and intellectuals have established connections with their American and European counterparts since the days of the Declaration of Independence. Studying these connections may help students understand the value of learning a foreign language, as well as the worth of our own culture in dialogue with that of English-speaking countries.
