Resumen:
Evidence of insect-fern interactions are described for the first time from LateMiocene strata of Salta Province, Argentina. The ichnospecies Infderefolia oblonga igen. nov. etisp. nov. and Folifenestra intervenosa isp. nov. are defined to include fossil traces of surfacefeeding and hole feeding damage respectively, located between the secondary veins andadjacent with the primary vein of two species of fossil ferns, Blechnum serrulatiformis andThelypteris interrupta. In Infderefolia oblonga the traces are oblong in shape and both ends arerounded; occupying the entire intercostal space. Surface feeding are found for the first time inthe fossil record of ferns. Folifenestra intervenosa is similar in shape and location to theprevious ichnotaxon, except that all herbivorized tissues are absent. A review of the fossilrecord of insect-fern associations is reviewed.
