Resumen:
The Spanish and Portuguese colonial development in the American continent during the 17th and 18th Centuries promoted key experiences for the future colonization in Africa and Asia during the 19th Century. Spanish and Portuguese colonial ideas and practices should be taken under consideration when analyzing other colonial experiences as well. The aim of this presentation is to contribute in the promotion of a Southern Atlantic approach to colonial experiences, more specifically to the colonial education ones. By introducing some Spanish colonial education cases, the idea is to reflect on the different ways in which race, class and gender where understood in both sides of the South Atlantic Ocean during their colonial periods. While I am not an expert in the field, the main aim of this presentation is to share some Latin American knowledge, backgrounds and perspectives and to open the dialogue, wishing future collaborations from both sides of the Ocean could take place.
