Resumen:
During the 1980s South African organisations were studying Latin American history ofstruggles as a way to rethink the way to approach the local South African struggle againstapartheid but also as a way to imagine an alternative reality once apartheid ended. While itwould be expected to find most of the books and pamphlets banned by the apartheid state, alot of Latin American publications were able to circulate not only in the underground but alsoin public spaces. The following article describes why and which Latin American ideas were of interest in thelocal South African context. It also analyses the ways in which these ideas were arriving tothe country and circulating among people. Research in this field is still underdeveloped andmore work needs to be done to systematise all the information and publications that wereproduced and were circulating in South Africa.
