Resumen:
During April 2009 the first autochthonous cases of dengue emerged in Cordoba city. This new phenomena deeply impacted in the local mass media and society. Methodologically, news about dengue were searched from “La Voz del Interior” newspaper (on-line version) during the referred period and then analyzed with the “Grounded theory” framework to build descriptive categories on the meanings of the epidemic from the point of view of the newspaper. Different meanings of the disease appeared, but the one that placed the epidemic as a disease of (and from) “Other´s” was conceived as the more significant meaning in order to describe some characteristics of local society.
