This is the first critical edition in English of the review by Karl Kautsky (1854-1938)of a book by the Ukrainian economist Mikhail Tugan-Baranovsky (1865-1919), entitled Studien zur Theorie und Geschichte der Handelskrisen in England (Studies on the Theory and History of Commercial Crises in England), first published in German in 1901 (G. Fisher, 425 pages). Kautsky´s review is entitled "Theories of Crises" and was originally published in Die neue Zeit, the theoretical organ of the Social Democratic Party of Germany as "Krisentheorien", Die neue Zeit: Wochenschrift der deutschen Sozialdemokratie, 20. Band, Hefte 2-5, 1902, S. 37-47, 76-81, 110-118, 133-143.
