Resumen:
This paper presents a new species found in water and surface sediment samples from the Jáchal River, in San Juan Province, Argentina.This new species belongs to the group of species related to Cymbella helvetica Kützing, which do not have apical pore fields. It canbe distinguished from known species of the group by its combination of morphometric and morphological features, such as the ventraldeflection of the proximal raphe fissures, and the shape of the apex.
