This book provides both a historical introduction and a comparativeanalysis of the five most important guerrilla movements in the CaribbeanBasin between 1959 and the 1990s, including Guatemala, El Salvador,Nicaragua, Colombia, and Puerto Rico. The authors argue that the ColdWar shaped and fueled the structure, tactics, and ideologies of the diverserevolutionary movements in the region. The authors also address theparticular impact that the Cuban Revolution had on the region. The firstchapter of Caribbean Revolutions provides an introduction to the CubanRevolution, the Cold War, and Marxist thought. Succeeding chaptersanalyze each case study individually and also provide discussions on thecurrent political situation for all of the organizations covered in the bookthat remain active. With lists of suggested readings and extra resources ineach chapter, this is written as an accessible course book for students ofLatin American history and politics.
