Resumen:
Belidae is a relatively small and old group of weevils (Coleoptera: Curculionoidea). It includes about 350 described species worldwide, classified in 38 genera and two subfamilies (Belinae and Oxycoryninae), with a distribution largely confined to the southern continents. In this chapter, an overview of this weevil family is presented, with especial reference to the South American taxa and the species that occur in the country, providing updated information on diversity, geographical distribution, classification and phylogenetic advances, biological aspects and hostplants. In Argentina, the Belinae are represented by three genera and five species (tribes Belini and Agnesiotidini), and the Oxycoryninae, by four genera and nine species (tribe Oxycorynini). A revised key to the South American genera and Argentinean species is provided.
