Resumen:
Labour movements in Latin America are facing a new crossroads due to socioeconomic and political changes that affect the place and the forms of conflict. The reintroduction of state intervention under neodevelopmental governments has proven insufficient to change the productive structure and the balance of power in labour-capital relations. The expansion of transnational capital pushes unions to re-evaluate strategies which were historically conditioned by corporativist arrangements centered on the State. The growth, transnationalization and concentration of capital creates a novel context that challenges the capacity of conventional corporativism to respond to these circumstances. Based on the work of authors Nicos Poulantzas and Antonio Gramsci, this paper discusses the current debates about capital-labour relations and the role of the State, with a centre on the issue of conflict and it is shape in the present economic context.
